Jones Show Cattle
Harrod, Ohio

Jones Show Cattle is a name known around the country when it comes to solid Maine-Anjou genetics. Jones Show Cattle or sometimes known as JSC is owned and operated by Randy and Troy Jones. Randy started his cattle operation in the early 1980’s and with the help of his son Troy has grown their farm over
the years. Jones Show Cattle currently runs about 200 head of cows which is primarily made up of their elite donor battery and quality recipients. The JSC show barns have seen their fair share of champions pass through but some of the most recent include Legacy’s Pina Colada which was the 2006 National Western Grand Champion Maine. Next in the line of recent success stories is JSC Katie 5s. Katie 5s was the Reserve Grand Champion at the 2007 National   Western Stock Show, Reserve Maine 2007   Illinois Beef Expo and Champion Maine at the   2007 Ohio AGR. The last success story comes   from the Shorthorn Plus show ring where JSC took Reserve Grand Champion at both the   2007 NAILE and 2008 NWSS with JSC Blue Rose. JSC also raised the high selling bull at the   2006 Ohio Beef Expo. The bull is named Hot Commodity and is owned by Jones Show Cattle,   Hoosier Cattle Co and Nowatzke Show Steers. For the past three years Jones Show Cattle   have hosted “The High Standards Female Sale” and this year will be no different. On   Saturday, November 8th the Fourth annual sale will be held at the JSC sale facility just off of   State Route 309 near Lima, Ohio. The 4th annual “High Standards Female Sale” will feature   60-75 lots consisting of Maine-Anjou, Chianina and Shorthorn cattle. Jones Show Cattle relies on a rigorous AI and embryo transfer program in order to achieve the success that they have enjoyed. In order to make this all work, JSC employees four cattleman. They consist of Troy Jones, Nick Hulsmeyer, Lee Halker and Kyle Schmerge. When managing a high profile show cattle business marketing is essential. Troy said the internet is probably the most effective way that Jones Show Cattle promotes their cattle. You can visit the JSC website at www.jonesshowcattle.com. Troy also markets his cattle in breed publications such as The Maine Voice and The Show Circuit. While we were on the subject of managing the JSC operation I asked Troy how that high gas and corn prices had affected things around the farm. Troy told us that they are being a little more strict on culling cows that are not being productive. Other than that JSC has just had to tighten their belts so to speak just as most other cattle operations.
